„The desert lives“

34th German Young Talent Competition for Gemstone and Jewellery Design Idar-Oberstein 2024

THEME:

„The desert lives"

Both the gemstone design and the design of a jewellery piece with precious stones were permitted. Thus, unmounted gemstones, the gemstone in finished jewellery, the gemstone object and the gemstone sculpture were allowed. The use of synthetic gems was permitted. Pearls were only allowed in combination with gemstones.

   1st PRICE: PIA EDELMANN
AUGSBURG, CERTIFICATE AND 1500 EURO

An outstandingly crafted revolving gemstone object took first prize in this year's young talent competition.

The award winner cautions: “The flower can only unfold its splendor with the root at the end, which ends in a fork and is also a reference to the cold nights in the desert. Both the blossom and the stamens are gilded, reflecting the heat of the day. Starting from the flower arch and moving up the stem, you reach the root, which reaches for water to enable the plant to live - similar to the way a person reaches for food with a fork so as not to starve to death”
